God
Wants to Use You to Change the World... and Here's What You'll Need
by Bill Allison
If you claim to be a follower of Jesus Christ, then you're in the
business of changing the world one person at a time. (See Matthew
28:18-20, the book of Acts, and the rest of the Bible for answers
to FAQs about changing the world.)
Great news: With just a mere handful of envisioned, trained, and
gutsy people, one can literally change the world.
But if the VISION isn't clear and compelling--or if the TRAINING
isn't practical and powerful--or if the trainees lack the GUTS to
selflessly sacrifice for the cause, then you DON'T have the true
"cadre" you'll need for the revolution. You've simply
got a small group of people who probably enjoy singing Kum ba ya.
And Kum-ba-ya-ers don't typically change the world. However, a true
"cadre" can change the world.

A tightly knit and trained group of dedicated
members active in promoting the interests of a revolutionary
party. |
Jesus strategically invested three years of his earthly life in
training a "cadre"--his disciples. Consequently, Jesus
is still changing the world today. (See 2 Timothy 2:2.)
On September 11, 2001, a "cadre" of nineteen people
changed the world as we know it.
Christians and Muslims have radically different agendas, but in
the two cases mentioned above--they both have at least three critically
important commonalities that have enabled them to change the world
in significant ways:
1. VISION that was clear and compelling.
2. TRAINING that was practical and powerful.
3. GUTS to selflessly sacrifice for the cause.
Do you REALLY want to change the world? If so, then let me challenge
you to answer these three questions with complete honesty:
1. Is your VISION clear and compelling?
2. Is your TRAINING practical and powerful?
3. Do your trainees have the GUTS to selflessly sacrifice for the
cause?

The Challenge of Finishing Well
By Bill Allison with Dave Garda
Starting
well is beneficial. Staying the course is critical. But it's the
way you finish that becomes your legacy.
No matter what age or season of life you're in right now, finishing
this life well is something to which you should give some careful
thought and intentional planning.
The
Challenge of Finishing Well is a twenty-eight page interactive
workbook that is designed to help you wrestle with what it means
for you to finish well in God's eyes. It's ideal for small groups
or for use as a personal half or full day retreat.
The spiritual racetrack of life is littered with the broken lives
of those who had great starts, were more talented, smarter, stronger,
and even more pious than most of us but for one reason or another
they did NOT finish well. Way too many of us finish poorly like
Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived: As Solomon grew old, his
wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully
devoted to the Lord his God (1 Kings 11:4). The danger for us is
that "as we grow old," our hearts could grow cold and
we may turn after other gods (including the god of self and comfort).
If it can happen to Solomon, it can happen to any of us. But it
doesn't have to... if... right now... you'll dare to accept The
Challenge of Finishing Well.

What Happened at Last Month's Cadre Training Festival in Midland,
MI?
After experiencing the Cadre Training Festival in Michigan last
month, here is what one pastor had to say:
I had a wonderful experience at the Cadre Training Festival last
Saturday at the Evangelical Free Church in Midland, MI. I participated
in the Creating
a Culture of Training session.
Here are the key take-aways for me:
It Starts with Me! The first half of the session
was spent on the importance of creating a training culture in
our own lives. If we're expecting people to learn and grow, then
we have to be leaders (husbands, fathers) that are committed to
learning and growing (spiritually, financially, relationally,
physically, etc.). Bill challenged us to evaluate our relationship
with the Lord and share it with another person at our table.
The Power of a Plan! While most people would
like to have a deeper relationship with the Lord (and be thin,
rich & tan), if we only desire these things they remain merely
a wish (despite the positive emotional energy we might gain feeling
good that we at least are wishing for the right things!). Unless
we have a plan, and especially a written plan, it's unlikely to
come to fruition. Bill stated that only 3% of people have a written
plan for their personal growth, yet those who have a written plan
will accomplish 80% of it. There's just something about writing
it down. This is something I've believed in (and practiced!) for
many years.
The Power of Training! Bill challenged us to
examine the life of Christ three years spent night and day training
twelve men who changed the world. While formal training can be
part of that, most of it is caught through personal interaction,
which leads us to!
The Power of Making It Personal! Having been
in ministry now for four years I have seen consistently that the
pulpit push (be it preaching or otherwise) has a limited ability
to encourage growth. The message, the program, the opportunity
often seem to just sail over (around or through!) the heads/hearts
of people to the ever popular someone who needs to grow, learn,
serve, etc. Just recently I've begun to have one on one, What's
your next step? Discussions with people and couples and found
it to be far more fruitful. I came away convinced that I need
to do at least one of these a week, focusing primarily on those
I lead and my family. I actually had one today that went exceedingly
well and encouraged the leader I was meeting with to go and do
likewise with another person. This could catch on! Who knows
we may change the world!!
