Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things--and the things that are not--to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God--that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord."
--1 Corinthians 1:26-31

God uses unlikely people--I know because he uses me!

Throughout history, God has used some of the most unlikely people from some of the most ordinary places to make an extraordinary difference for him. I have seen few persons whose minds were spiritually darker when he came into my Sunday school class, or one who seemed more unlikely ever to become a Christian of clear decided views, still less to fill any sphere of extended public usefulness.

Those were the words of D.L. Moody's Sunday school teacher. Dl. Moody turned out to be one of the most amazing evangelists in North American history.

What do you think? Why do you believe that God starts with ordinary people like you and me when he wants to do an amazing ministry? What if God used the same lens that the world does to determine who will be sucessuful and who will not... how would that change your willingness to get involved in the amazing ministry that God has for you?

Reflect on 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 above. Why does God often choose to use the foolish, weak, lowly and despised for his purposes?

Does this mean that you're not special to God or does it make you feel even more special? See Psalm 139:14

Get Wet: Take a moment and write a note of thanks to God for the certainty that he has plans to use you greatly to accomplish his purposes. Tell him how that makes you feel. Ask him for the strength and humility you'll need to be used in his plans. Ask him to show you the specific steps of obedience you'll need to take to be in line with his plans for you.
