He [Jesus] is the one who gave these gifts to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility [the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers] is to equip God's people [including YOU & me] to do his work... Ephesians 4:11-12 (NLT, brackets and bold ours)

It's OK to talk in class! We encourage you to DIALOGUE, talk, think-aloud and wrestle with what it means for you to GET WET as a part of your training for ministry.

Who can you invite to DIALOGUE with you about the training you need for the ministry God has designed for you?

Who are the key people in your church (volunteers, staff and students) to whom you can email this page and get a dialogue rolling about training volunteers? List at least three:

Jesus the Trainer: who he selected
In Eating Problems for Breakfast, Tim Hansel shares this fictitious letter that a modern day consulting company might have written to Jesus about his choice of disciples:

To: Jesus, Son of Joseph
From: Jordan Management Consultants

Dear Sir:
Thank you for submitting the resumes of the twelve men you have picked for managerial positions in your new organization. All of them have now taken our battery of tests; and we have not only run the results through our computer, but also arranged personal interviews for each of them with our psychologist and vocational aptitude consultant.

It is the staff opinion that most of your nominees are lacking in background, education and vocational aptitude for the type of enterprise you are undertaking. They do not have the team concept. We would recommend that you continue your search for persons of experience in managerial ability and proven capability.

Simon Peter is emotionally unstable and given to fits of temper. Andrew has absolutely no qualities of leadership. The two brothers, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, place personal interest above company loyalty. Thomas demonstrates a questioning attitude that would tend to undermine morale. We feel that it is our duty to tell you that Matthew had been blacklisted by the Greater Jerusalem Better Business Bureau; James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus definitely have radical leanings, and they both registered a high score on the manic-depressive scale.

One of the candidates, however, shows great potential. He is a man of ability and resourcefulness, meets people well, has a keen business mind, and has contacts in high places. He is highly motivated, ambitious, and responsible. We recommend Judas Iscariot as your controller and right-hand man. All of the other profiles are self-explanatory.

We wish you every success in your new venture.
Sincerely,
Jordan Management Consultants

Which one of the disciples is most like you?

Why do you think Jesus spent so much time building a relationship with his followers?
What role are spiritual relationships having in your training to be an Ephesians 4:11-15 worker in God's plan?

Get Wet: Pray for God's drawing you to a team of people who really want to be equipped for ministry. Pray that God would open your eyes and even surprise you with who he wants you to partner with. Pray for the teachable and humble spirit that you'll need to be trully released as a worker in God's harvest field. Thank God in advance for the joy you'll experience as he releases you into ministry with your friends, co-workers and family.
